Hello Esteemed Reader of Pam’s Bitácora!

It is that time of the year when the eye-staring fact that an entire year is gone starts to dawn.

It is that time of the year when you look at your goals for the year and judge yourself. Oftentimes, too harshly.

It is that time of the year when the temptation to feel really low about the many things you left half done or partly touched, or worse still, totally untouched, grossly multiplies.

But it is also that time of the year when we all must look closely and be grateful for the little things that often escape our notice!

“And what are they?”, you may ask. Well, for one, GROWTH.

It is an undeniable thing that when something is alive, they don’t usually stay the same. Only a statue does that: stay the same. And I bet you know that already, as a statue is not ‘living’. Haha. I digress.

Since you are alive and reading this, you are slightly different from who you were last year and this is because you don’t ever stay the same when you are alive and living. You may not notice significant growth, especially in the physical —provided you didn’t add any substantial weight over the year, that is. You probably didn’t grow any taller either, if you are past certain age. [I think this is where Athena tells Frank Walker to stay on topic in ‘Tomorrow Land’. #rolls eyes]

What I am saying in essence is, it doesn’t matter if you see it or not, something changed in you this year. This happened in form of the growth that occurred from all the individual or collective experiences you had from January till date!

Let me ask.

Did you read at least a book or two or ten this year? [P.S A really good book I mean. The kind that triggers a paradigm shift. lol]

Did you get hurt, offended, pissed off etc., but made it through and picked your emotions up alongside the lessons?

Did you learn new things about yourself as a result of interactions with other people or even through introspection and mindfulness?

Okay, did you at least learn some new words? Meet new people? Made new friends? Stop any bad habit?

Did you walk out on toxic people, find ways to be stronger, discover what really matters in life?

Did you make any progress, however little, on your way to fulfilling your dreams or making yourself a better version of you?

Alright, let’s go deeper. Did you happen to look a little more closely at a leaf or flower anytime this year?

Did you feel sorry for a wrong you have done and sought to make amends?

Did you show more love to the people in your life? Told them how much you care?

Did you stop to glance at the night stars and appreciate the intelligence behind them?

Did you laugh freely, not caring how you sounded, just because?

Did you take a moment this year to drink in the beauty of life and feel content at the gift of it?

Did you…? Did you…?

If yes, great! Great! You are alive and well. It is good to set targets and meet them but forget about those ‘big’ things for a moment and be grateful for another chance to experience the mystery of life and daily living all year.

It is that time of the year when we tend to compare ourselves with others who are also busy living their own lives when we ought to, and really do have our own lives to live as well.

Instead of feeling low about another year gone by without fulfilling all your wonderful wishes for the year (which by the way are legitimate desires!!!), will you permit me to encourage you with these words?

You did well this year! You were alive, and as such, didn’t stay the same. Be thankful for the growth that happened during the course of your ‘living’: the growth of your beautiful soul!

As the year draws close to an end, I want you to spend the rest of it being perpetually thankful for the YOU that did not stay the same, the YOU that experienced GROWTH…in spite of it all!

Let me know if this blessed you!

Warm regards,
